What are LED’s and how are they used?
LED’s- Light Emitting Diodes-
provide infrared (invisible to the eye) and visible red light that helps
the cells of the human tissue, the same way sunlight helps the cells of
plants, process and utilize food and air, into usable energy. The LED’s
are programmed to change frequency and patterns of length to offer the
most beneficial treatment according to the patients needs and desired
effects. LED technology has long been touted as being an aide in wound
treatment; the reduction in appearance of wrinkles, scars, and
cellulite; and pain management through it’s use of deep-penetrating
warmth and stimulation of cell metabolism, and has been the topic of
research by NASA for space utilization, medical college research
studies, and even physical fitness training facilities everywhere. Most
current medical responses to skin aging currently involve invasive,
painful, and often very expensive means of correction. LED offers a
non-invasive approach that can be used regularly to reduce the
appearance of the problem areas that these extensive surgeries and
laser-treatments are being used to correct. LED therapy stimulates the
release of adenosine triphosphate (ATP), which is the major carrier of
energy to all cells driving the chemical reaction of the cell.
Is the LED safe to use and operate?
Yes, the LED is entirely safe to use
and to operate. LED therapy is an FDA-approved cosmetic procedure that
is gentle, painless, quite safe and effective. Treatments are
non-invasive and non-abrasive, yet the light penetrates deeply into
skin’s tissue. It is safe for any age, color, or skin-type, and can be
used on any area of the body, with the exception of the eyes.
LED Light Therapy is NOT RECOMMENDED if you suffer from:
Epilepsy - certain frequencies of light can trigger epileptic seizures.
Pregnancy - studies haven’t
conclusively determined the risk to pregnant women and their babies, and
is therefore not recommended.
Thyroid conditions – not recommended for those that suffer from thyroid conditions.
Not recommended for those who are
photo-allergic, or are taking medication that has shown to cause light
sensitivities (such as Tetracycline).
Is the treatment dangerous to the eyes?
We recommend that you do not stare directly into the LED Light. Goggles are provided to ensure comfort during treatment.
Is it possible to combine LED treatments with other procedures or products?
Absolutely. The LED treatment can be
used alone or with other skin care treatments. Many aestheticians and
physicians have used LED in combination with other skincare modalities
and found them to be very complimentary.
Does it dry skin out?
No. In fact, you will notice that within days of an LED treatment your skin will become more hydrated, firm and smooth.
Is the treatment painful?
Not in the least. On the contrary,
it is comfort-producing and relaxing, much like spending time in the
sunlight. It is a very gentle treatment, quite painless and
non-invasive. Additionally, there is no real “down-time” after your
How long does treatment take?
Each unit is preprogrammed with easy
to understand settings (as easy to operate as pushing a button) which
provide the patient with a 20-minute session best suited for the
individual’s target area. This is the recommended duration of one
session for most conditions. Deep pain relief applications will
generally take longer, perhaps two consecutive sessions.
How is the skin prepared for the treatment?
For best results, use the unit only
on clean skin. It is also recommended that one cleanse and exfoliate
skin before use (exfoliating (sloughing) the skin helps the LED light to
penetrate deeper into skin).
When should I use the LED device?
Varying frequencies of LED light
give the skin the necessary aid to reduce signs of aging. Patients with
recent surgical wounds or trauma can use LED for accelerated healing and
scar reduction post surgery. Patients with skin discolorations and acne
can use LED as frequently as they desire. Some patients with diabetes
or other light/heat sensitive ailments may require attention to avoid
over-heated skin but can still benefit from the device.
How long until I can expect visible results?
Due to the variety of skin-types and
the variation in damage to skin some will see immediate improvement and
others will require further treatments. The majority of clients will
see marked results in around four treatments. With some clients even one
treatment will have a visible freshening and rejuvenating effect.
Treatments are progressive and have cumulative benefits so we recommend a
schedule of 10 sessions to obtain the maximum demonstrable results from
speaking, those with Rosacea skin will experience a calming effect
after 3 or so treatments. Collagen production and anti-aging may take up
to 4 weeks before the improvements can be plainly seen. Pain and wounds
heal faster with each treatment (30 minutes a day, at least). Skin
texture and tone improve on the very first treatment.
What is the difference between the Blue and Red LED Lights?
The difference is in the wavelength
at which the LED Light is emitted, measured by Nanometers, or “nm”. Each
color has its own range of efficacy against certain skin conditions.
LED BLUE LIGHT, approximately 400 to 485 nm, has been shown to be effective in treating the following conditions:
P. acnes is known as the causative
agent of acne. Porphyrin, a compound generated by the P. acnes bacteria
is photosensitive and reacts to 405-440 nm (blue) light. Blue Light
Therapy is an alternative for patients who do not respond well to
antibiotic therapy or who develop problematic side-effects.
LED RED LIGHT, approximately 600-900 nm, is very useful in the treatment of many different conditions among which are:
Reduces the appearance of aging and damaged skin, such as fine lines, wrinkles, and
Temporarily relieves minor muscle and joint pain, stiffness, and relaxes muscle tissue. Rosacea skin flushing is calmed within a few treatments. Improves skin texture, even causing spots to fade.
Who needs and can benefit from LED Light Therapy?
As we all inevitably age, our skin
looses some of its ability to heal and reconstruct itself. The skin’s
production of components such as collagen and elastin, necessary in
maintaining the physical appearance and vitality of skin, decreases over
